What really is depression?

Is depression really that terrible?
From what i have found from the dictionary, depression is mainly about psychiatric disorder. It will cause the person's mind to think of negative effects and images. It can even be a danger to you and your family... don't think that depression is only an illness. You won't know what a person is thinking if he/she is having depression. The friend that i have mentioned earlier in my entry had depression not long ago. Nobody knew about it and therefore when she needed someone no one is there.
